The Roberts Academy

The Roberts Academy at Florida Southern College is redefining what’s possible for students with dyslexia—transforming not only how they learn, but how they see themselves and their future.
Founded in 2010, the Academy serves students in grades 1–8 with average to above-average intelligence who struggle with reading, writing, and spelling. At a time when early intervention is most critical, Roberts provides intensive, evidence-based instruction grounded in the science of reading—ensuring that literacy gaps are addressed before they widen into lifelong barriers. Students build essential skills in phonological awareness, decoding, and written expression, gaining the strong foundation needed for long-term academic success.
Roberts Academy is widely regarded as a gold standard in specialized literacy education—demonstrating what is possible when research, expertise, and care come together.

  • 190 students currently enrolled, each receiving personalized, targeted instruction
  • 16 Orton-Gillingham certified instructors delivering structured, multisensory literacy intervention
  • 11 faculty members with master’s degrees, bringing advanced training and deep expertise
  • Small class sizes and daily, intensive intervention that drive measurable, lasting growth

Since opening its doors, the Academy has helped hundreds of students change the trajectory of their lives—closing literacy gaps, restoring confidence, and preparing them to transition successfully into mainstream learning environments.
But the transformation goes beyond academics. Students rediscover their confidence, develop the ability to advocate for themselves, and begin to believe in their own potential. They don’t just learn to read—they learn that they can.
Your support on the Day of Giving ensures that more students receive the early, expert intervention they need—opening the door to brighter futures, stronger self-belief, and lifelong success.
